A valid Mental Health Treatment Plan and referral letter from your GP is required to access Medicare rebates. Upload both documents when you book your appointment.
A Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP) is a document created by your GP that reviews your current mental health, including insomnia and sleep problems.
Getting a MHTP should be straightforward. You’ll need to speak with your GP speak with your GP about your mental health plan and complete an assessment. During this time, they’ll take a short history and may ask you to complete a questionnaire so they can provide a summary to your psychologist. If they consider that you would benefit from a MHTP, your GP will create your MHTP which will enable you to claim Medicare rebates for 6 sessions with any registered psychologist. After you complete 6 sessions, you can return to your GP to review your MHTP, and they may recommend an additional 4 sessions depending on your needs.
With a Mental Health Treatment Plan, you should be eligible to claim Medicare rebates for up to 10 sessions with a registered psychologist per calendar year.
